This research group, consisting of academics and post-graduate students from a variety of tertiary institutions, was established to address human rights in education with the emphasis on religious and cultural diversity. The need to engage in rigorous discussions on these issues arose as a result of collaborations and participation in international projects. This research group concentrates on human rights in education from a pedagogical and less from a legalistic point of view. Members of the group have experiences as lecturers in teacher training and attempt to contemplate the different processes that emanate from the study of human rights in diverse education environments. In short, we aim to develop sustainable strategies to assist educators to infuse a culture of human rights in diverse religious and cultural contexts; conduct cutting-edge research on matters regarding human rights, religions, belief systems and cultures in the context of education; and establish a core research group to engage in collaboration to sustain and support the increasing need for research in this domain.
Members of the research group are also members of numerous national and international academic societies and present the results of projects as academic outputs in articles, books, chapters in books and papers at national and international conferences. April 2009 |
